13 Sep Dr. Jonathan Broomberg – Discovery Health CEO
Dr Jonathan Broomberg is Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Health, South Africa’s largest health insurer, which manages 19 health funds, comprising over 3.3 million members.
Jonathan studied medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and then read PPE at Balliol College as a Rhodes Scholar. He subsequently completed MSc and PHD degrees in Health Economics at the University of London.
Jonathan’s career in healthcare includes a period serving as Special Advisor to the Minister of Health of South Africa in the first post apartheid administration. Prior to joining Discovery Health,
Jonathan was a founding director of a healthcare focused private equity and venture capital firm. Alongside his private sector interests, Jonathan maintains a strong engagement with South African and global health policy affairs, and served as Chair of the Technical Review Panel of the Global Fund for 2 terms.
